Kirsty Banfield

B.Sc. Optometry ( City University, London)


Kirsty qualified from The City University in London in 1984 and successfully completed her professional exams and registered as an optometrist in 1985.


Following her registration she worked as a clinical teacher at the Institute of Optometry in London. Her role included working in the general clinic, contact lens  and orthoptic clinics. She was also involved in teaching clinical skills to undergraduate and preregistration optometry students.  She worked as a sessional optometrist in the paediatric ophthalmology clinic at Guys Hospital London at Guys Hospital. From 1990 she worked in independent private practice in London, continuing to specialise in children’s vision and contact lens fitting.


After returning to her native Melbourne Kirsty continued to work in private practice, before purchasing Mt Martha Optical in 1998.


Kirsty is a member of Optometry Australia, and CLCSA. She maintains a rigorous program of Continuing Professional Development.



Heather Zimmerman


Heather joined the practice in 2006 having previously worked as an optical dispensing assistant for several years. Joining Mt Martha Optical gave her the opportunity to work in a boutique style practice where the attention is firmly focused on customer care.


Mel Semple


Mel joined Mt Martha Optical in 2016 having worked in a chain store optical practice previously.  Mel has enjoyed being introduced to a wider range of optical products and loves  giving a personalised service to our clients when selecting their frame  and lenses.


Cheryl Hunt


Cheryl joined the practice team in 2017 and is new to the optical industry. Her background has been in customer service in the banking industry and medical clinics. She brings with her a warm personality, and a desire to learn; she will add further strength to our practice.
